Nepal – Equality Now joint submission to the Committee on Eliminating Discrimination against Women 71st pre-sessional working group March 2018

Key takeaways and recommendations

The joint submission deals with our concern about prevailing gender discrimination against Nepali women, who are denied the right to confer nationality on their children and spouses and to acquire and retain their own nationality on an equal basis with men, with severe consequences for women and their families.

The Committee referenced this submission in their Concluding Observations following their 71st session in November 2018.

Submitted by: Equality Now, the Global Campaign for Equal Nationality Rights, the Forum for Women, Law and Development, the Institute on Statelessness and Inclusion, and the Statelessness Network Asia Pacific.
